German Infineon posts heavy quarterly loss, to cut 3,000 jobs

BERLIN, July 25, 2008 (AFP) - German semi-conductor group Infineon posted a sharp quarterly loss on Friday and announced the loss of 3,000 jobs.

'It will be necessary to reduce headcount by a gross figure of approximately 3,000 employees,' a company statement said.

'This figure refers to all sites, functions and levels across the company.'

US chip maker AMD to cut 10 percent of workforce

SAN FRANCISCO, April 7, 2008 (AFP) - US computer chip maker Advanced Micro Devices said Monday it will cut 10 percent of its global workforce in the face of sagging revenues.

AMD said it will cut approximately 1,650 jobs beginning this month.

The announcement came as AMD warned its first-quarter earnings report due for release April 17 will show sales below expectations.

South Korea's Hynix announces 'fastest' one-gigabit chip

SEOUL, April 6, 2008 (AFP) - South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor said Sunday it has developed what it calls the fastest data-processing one-gigabit memory chip for cellphones and other mobile applications.
