EU clears Thomas Cook purchase of Jet Tours

BRUSSELS, August 4, 2008 (AFP) - EU regulators on Monday approved Europe's second largest travel firm Thomas Cook's takeover of smaller French rival Jet Tours.

The European Commission announced that it had given the deal its blessing via a 'simplified' vetting process used for acquisitions not seen as posing any competition problems.

BRUSSELS, July 28, 2008 (AFP) - The European Commission on Monday approved US candy giant Mars' 23-billion-dollar purchase of Wrigley, finding that the deal would not threaten competition.

BRUSSELS, July 23, 2008 (AFP) - The European Commission approved Porsche's planned takeover of Volkswagen Wednesday, paving the way for the German sports car maker to buy Europe's biggest auto maker.
