WASHINGTON, Oct 6, 2007 (AFP) - US Republican lawmaker Jo Ann Davis, who represented Virginia in the House of Representatives, died Saturday after losing a battle with breast cancer, her office announced. She was 57.
Davis was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a re-occurrence earlier this year, officials said.
President George W. Bush said in a statement he was 'deeply saddened' by Davis's passing.
'She was a fine example of a public servant who worked hard to cut government waste to ensure the people's money was used wisely,' Bush said.
SYDNEY, July 27, 2007 (AFP) - Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt on Wednesday said he would lead Australia in its Davis Cup tie with Serbia in Belgrade next September.
Hewitt said Australia would be underdogs in the World Group playoff, where he is likely to face Novak Djokovic, who beat him in the fourth round at Wimbledon this year.
'If we can win this tie it will be a remarkable win, it really would,' said Hewitt.
'It's a great challenge, but this is the kind of thing I look forward to.

The 28-year-old had agreed the move earlier this month but had not played enough international games in the last two years to be eligible for a permit.
Rams manager Billy Davies said: 'We`re delighted with the decision and welcome Claude as a Derby player.'
