200 tourists, many Britons, OK after illness: Dominican official

SANTO DOMINGO, Aug 9, 2007 (AFP) - A hotel was closed Thursday, after about 200 tourists, a majority from Britain, fell ill, a Dominican health minister said, adding that they are out of danger.

'They were placed under observation, the kitchen was inspected and everything looks alright so far,' Public Health secretary Bautista Rojas told reporters.

Plane quarantined in Britain after passengers taken sick

LONDON, Aug 9, 2007 (AFP) - A plane from the Dominican Republic to Britain was temporarily quarantined on arrival at Glasgow airport Thursday, after passengers fell sick with a stomach bug, a spokesman said.

Some 27 passengers fell ill on the MyTravel flight, which landed at the Scottish airport Thursday morning.

'The aircraft was quarantined on arrival,' said Donald Morrison, a spokesman for the British Airports Authority (BAA) in Scotland, adding that a team of four doctors was organized to check the passengers over.
