Football: I won't be gagged, warns Domenech

PARIS, August 5, 2008 (AFP) - Under scrutiny France manager Raymond Domenech told the country's footballing authorities on Tuesday that he will never be a 'yes' man, warning that he did not intend to change his methods.

Domenech narrowly survived the sack despite France's poor showing at Euro 2008 and a very public gaffe made on TV after the team's defeat against Italy.

Football: Euro 2008 organisers confident successors will be ready

VIENNA, July 29, 2008 (AFP) - Euro 2008 chief organiser Martin Kallen said Tuesday he was confident that Poland and Ukraine would be ready to stage the event without a hitch in 2012.

Both countries have been under pressure to deliver amid fears that they are lagging behind with logistical and infrastructural preparations, but Kallen, a Swiss, said he was 'not worried.'

Football: Euro 2008 generates record profits

ZURICH, July 29, 2008 (AFP) - The Euro 2008 football championship generated record profits of 250 million euros (392 million dollars), European football's governing body UEFA announced on Tuesday.

A total financial turnover of 1.3 billion euros was generated during the June 7-29 tournament which was co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland.

Austrian hotels see less guests than expected during Euro 2008

VIENNA, July 25, 2008 (AFP) - The Euro 2008 did not have the anticipated effect in Austria of bolstering the number of overnight stays hotels, which dipped 4.1 percent compared to the prior year, hoteliers in the country said.
