Football: Berson joins Toulouse in free transfer from Levante

PARIS, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - Midfielder Mathieu Berson has joined French league One club Toulouse after being given a free ticket to leave struggling Spanish second division club Levante, Toulouse said Wednesday.

The 28-year-old started his career at French league 1 club Nantes, before moving to England in 2004 to join Aston Villa.

Olympics: Norway stun United States in football opener

QINHUANGDAO, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - Norway stunned defending champions the United States with a 2-0 win in their Group G women's football match at the Qinhuangdao Stadium here Wednesday.

It was sweet revenge for the Norwegians after they were beaten by the United States a year ago in the play-off for third at the World Cup.

Football: Duda returns to Malaga on loan from FC Seville

MADRID, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - FC Seville's Portuguese international midfielder Sergio Paulo Barbosa, known as 'Duda', will return to Spanish first division side Malaga on loan for the upcoming season, the club said Wednesday.

Under the deal Malaga will not have the option to buy the 28-year-old at the end of the season, the club said.

MANCHESTER, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra insists he has no plans to sell Manchester City.

Reports in England on Wednesday claimed Thaksin may be forced to look for a buyer for the Premier League club due to his fight against corruption charges in Thailand.

Football: Spectre of injuries haunts Henry at Barca

MADRID, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - Barcelona's French striker Thierry Henry, handicapped by a series of injuries last season, said Wednesday his greatest wish is stay fit for the whole of the coming season.

'The only thing I want is to not get injured,' he said in an interview on the club's website.

The 30-year-old played several matches last season with back pains.
