Hungarian court rejects hate speech amendments

BUDAPEST, June 30, 2008 (AFP) - The Hungarian Constitutional Court said Monday it rejected Socialist-initiated amendments of the country's hate speech bill, calling them unconstitutional.

The amendments would cause the curtailing of freedom of expression, the court said in a statement.

B'nai Brith reports anti-Semitism on the rise in Canada

OTTAWA, April 9, 2008 (AFP) - For the second year in a row, the number of attacks on Jews in Canada has hit a record high, a leading Jewish advocacy group said Wednesday.

In its annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, B'Nai Brith Canada reported a total of 1,042 death threats, assaults and intimidation of Jews last year by Canadians.

IOC official says torch protesters fuelled by hate

BEIJING, April 8, 2008 (AFP) - A senior International Olympic Committee official on Tuesday condemned protesters who disrupted the London and Paris legs of the torch relay, saying they were fuelled by hatred of China.
