Unwilling witness jailed by Yugoslav war crimes court

THE HAGUE, September 11, 2008 (AFP) - The UN's Yugoslav war crimes tribunal on Thursday jailed an unwilling witness in the war crimes trial of Serbian ultra-nationalist Vojislav Seselj.

Ljubisa Petkovic was found guilty of contempt of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and sentenced to four months' imprisonment.

Serbia calls for surrender of last two war crimes fugitives

BELGRADE, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - Serbia appealed Wednesday for the last two war crimes fugitives wanted by a UN tribunal, Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, to give themselves up.

'I personally would like Mladic to surrender as soon as possible,' Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac was quoted as saying in an interview published in the daily Blic.

No deal with Karadzic, says ex-Balkans mediator

STOCKHOLM, August 1, 2008 (AFP) - Noone promised Radovan Karadzic he would avoid a UN war crimes trial if he withdrew from public life, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, who helped mediate the Balkans conflict, said Friday.

'Such a deal never existed. There has not been any attempt to drop the charges' against Karadzic, Bildt told Swedish public radio.
