NEW YORK, Sept 26, 2007 (AFP) - Hollywood star Angelina Jolie called for the world to get its 'priorities in order' Wednesday, saying that the amount of money spent in Iraq in just a few hours could educate thousands of children.
'To put things into perspective and maybe help to understand why we maybe need to adjust the way we're doing things in the world, the conflict in Iraq has displaced over four million people,' Jolie told reporters in New York.
GENEVA, Aug 28, 2007 (AFP) - US actress Angelina Jolie met Tuesday with some of the 1,200 Iraqis stranded on the border between Iraq and Syria and appealed for more international support for those affected by the Iraq conflict.
'I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to this humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR (the UN refugee agency) and its partners,' said Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the agency.
'My sole purpose in both countries is to highlight the plight of those uprooted by the war in Iraq,' she added.
MARSEILLE, France, Aug 2, 2007 (AFP) - The owners of an exclusive hotel in French Provence where Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just spent a summer break have been arrested for alleged tax fraud, officials said on Thursday.
The owners of the Pagy de Valbonne hotel in the village of Lambesc, near Aix-en-Provence, which charges between 150 and 450 euros a night for its seven rooms, were arrested on Wednesday.
They are to be brought before a judge to face charges on a dozen counts of fraud, including evading tax over a 10-year period.
