Motorcycling: Hungary to build circuit for 2009 MotoGP

BUDAPEST, July 23, 2008 (AFP) - Hungary plans to build a motorcycling circuit that will host MotoGP competitions from 2009 onwards, National Development and Economy Minister Gordon Bajnai announced Wednesday in Budapest.

'Hungary is going to host a Grand Prix event of the MotoGP championship at the Balatonring for at least five years, starting in September 2009,' Bajnai said.

Motorcycling: Lorenzo in plaster for ten days

MADRID, July 22, 2008 (AFP) - Spanish Yahama rider Jorge Lorenzo said Tuesday he will have his left foot in plaster for ten days after fracturing three toes during the US MotoGP at the weekend.

Lorenzo fell heavily on the first lap at Laguna Seca, but hopes to be up and running again by the Czech Grand Prix on August 17.

ROME, July 22, 2008 (AFP) - Seven-time former world champion Valentino Rossi has hit back at reigning world champion Casey Stoner after comments the Australian made following the pair's thrilling battle at Sunday's US GP.

Italian Rossi won the race at Laguna Seca after he overtook Stoner with a daring pass on the fourth lap at the Cavatappi bend.

LAGUNA SECA, July 21, 2008 (AFP) - Italy's Valentino Rossi stretched his lead atop the MotoGP standings Sunday with a triumph in the US Grand Prix.

The Yamaha rider, a seven-time world champion, emerged victorious after a fierce duel with reigning world champ Casey Stoner, who finished second aboard a Ducati, with Stoner's fellow Australian Chris Vermeulen third on a Suzuki.

Motorcycling: Stoner seizes pole for US MotoGP

LAGUNA SECA, July 19, 2008 (AFP) - Reigning world champion Casey Stoner of Australia captured his fifth straight pole position Saturday in qualifying for Sunday's US MotoGP.

Stoner, who dominated the free practice on Friday, clocked the fastest qualifying time of 1min 20.700sec.

Motorcycling: Injured Pedrosa out of US MotoGP

LAGUNA SECA, July 19, 2008 (AFP) - Spain's world title hopeful Dani Pedrosa has been forced out of Sunday's United States Grand Prix after failing to recover from injuries suffered in a fall in Germany last week.

'Dani won't take part in either qualifying or the race,' said a Honda spokesman.
