British house prices plunge at record pace: survey

British house prices slumped a record 14.6 percent in October from the equivalent level 12 months ago in the latest sign of the country`s economic struggles, a survey by Nationwide bank showed on Thursday.

Prices fell by 1.4 percent in October from September, the bank which is one of the biggest British mortgage lenders said.

LONDON, Oct 2, 2008 (AFP) - House prices in Britain plunged by a record 12.4 percent during September compared with the same month in 2007, as the credit crunch took its toll, a survey by Nationwide bank showed on Thursday.

Prices dropped by 1.7 percent in September from August, added Nationwide, one of Britain's biggest lenders of home loans.

British mortgage lender Nationwide snaps up struggling peers

Anti-junta protests sweeping Myanmar: reports

BANGKOK, Sept 25, 2007 (AFP) - Buddhist monks and their supporters have rallied against the junta in cities and towns of all sizes across military-ruled Myanmar, the BBC and exiled media groups reported Tuesday.

By far the largest protest on Monday was in the commercial hub Yangon, where up to 100,000 people thronged the streets carrying banners and chanting prayers of peace and compassion.
