Sweden`s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olof Mellberg have had special dispensation to be rested for Wednesday`s friendly international against Holland, a statement from the Swedish football federation said.

Speedskating: Dutchman Kramer sets 5,000m world record

CALGARY, Canada, Nov 17, 2007 (AFP) - Dutchman Sven Kramer set a world record in the men's 5,000 meters here Saturday at a World Cup Speedskating event, winning in 6 mins 3.32 secs.

The effort broke the week-old world mark of 6:07.40 set by Italy's Enrico Fabris at Salt Lake City, Utah.

Kramer, who took the silver medal in the distance at the 2006 Turin Olympics, recaptured the world record, having set the mark prior to this season at 6:07.48 last March in Calgary.

Football: Dutch veteran Davids breaks leg

AMSTERDAM, July 22, 2007 (AFP) - Ajax midfielder Edgar Davids broke his leg in a friendly and will miss the opening three months of the season, the Dutch club said on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Davids, who returned to Holland from Tottenham in January, suffered the injury in the abandoned friendly match against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday.

'Davids broke his left shin bone in a challenge. The left-footed veteran will be out for at least three months,' said the statement.
