TEHRAN, Oct 11, 2007 (AFP) - The pilot and co-pilot of a light aircraft were killed on Thursday when their plane crashed near a major highway in Babai, northeastern Tehran, the state IRNA news agency said.
It said the plane was a privately-owned trainer which came down next to a sand processing plant.
State television blamed the crash on technical problems.

WARSAW, Sept 12, 2007 (AFP) - A US-made F-16 fighter plane belonging to Poland's armed forces made an emergency landing in Warsaw on Wednesday without causing deaths or damage, the Polish air force said.
'The crew signaled the presence of smoke in the cockpit, and in applying the emergency operation procedure, it landed without problems at the closest airport,' said Commander Wieslaw Grzegorzewski.
The plane landed at Warsaw-Okecie airport and was transferred to the military section of the airport.
SYDNEY, Sept 9, 2007 (AFP) - Australian fighter jets intercepted a light plane Sunday that had entered restricted air space over Sydney without authorisation as world leaders wrapped up a regional summit, officials said.
The light aircraft failed to comply with aviation procedures in place for the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, the Australian Defence Department said in a statement.
SYDNEY, Sept 9, 2007 (AFP) - Two Australian fighter jets reportedly fired flares at a light plane that entered restricted airspace over Sydney as a major Asia-Pacific summit drew to a close Sunday.
A witness told commercial radio that shortly before 3.00 pm (0500 GMT) he saw the plane enter restricted airspace over the western suburb of Penrith before flares were fired at it by two F/A-18 jets.
'This light plane came over in restricted airspace because of APEC and these two fighter jets come out in the middle of nowhere and were firing flares at it,' the witness said.
MOSCOW, Aug 23, 2007 (AFP) - Russia suspended all flights of its Su-24 frontline bombers after one of the planes crashed during a training flight in far eastern Siberia on Thursday, the Interfax news agency reported.
One of the planes crashed for unknown reasons early Thursday in the Khabarovsk region, though the pilot and crewman ejected safely, air force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky said.
'The commander in chief of the air force has decided to stop Su-24 flights until the reason for the crash is established,' he said.
MOSCOW, Aug 23, 2007 (AFP) - A Russian Su-24 frontline bomber crashed during a training flight in far eastern Siberia on Thursday, the Interfax news agency reported.
Both pilots ejected and no one was killed when the plane crashed for unknown reasons in the far eastern Khabarovsk region, air force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky said.
'Two Mi-8 search-and-rescue helicoptors were dispatched.... The pilots were found alive where the plane went down,' he said.
An air force commission has been formed to determine the cause of the crash.
LONDON, Aug 9, 2007 (AFP) - A plane from the Dominican Republic to Britain was temporarily quarantined on arrival at Glasgow airport Thursday, after passengers fell sick with a stomach bug, a spokesman said.
Some 27 passengers fell ill on the MyTravel flight, which landed at the Scottish airport Thursday morning.
'The aircraft was quarantined on arrival,' said Donald Morrison, a spokesman for the British Airports Authority (BAA) in Scotland, adding that a team of four doctors was organized to check the passengers over.
ADDIS ABABA, July 24, 2007 (AFP) - One person died and eight were injured Monday when a Djibouti Airways plane crashed in Ethiopia due to 'technical problems,' Ethiopian radio reported.
'One person was killed when a plane belonging to Djibouti Airways crashed around noon in Shinile zone, due to technical problems,' the official radio said.
'Eight other passengers were injured, five of them have already left Dire Dawa hospital after receiving treatment for their minor injuries. The remaining three are said to be in critical condition and still remain in the hospital.'
