Serbia's govt to help air carrier JAT after failed privatization bid

BELGRADE, Oct 6, 2008 (AFP) - The government of Serbia said Monday it would prepare a business strategy for the state's only air carrier JAT after the airline failed to attract foreign buyers.

The government in July sought bids for 51 percent of JAT Airways for at least 51 million euros (68.8 million dollars) but had received no offers by the September 26 deadline.

German rail privatisation will bring in 4.5 billion euros: report

BERLIN, Sept 27, 2008 (AFP) - The partial privatisation of Germany's rail operator Deutsche Bahn should bring in 4.5 billion euros, less than estimated by the government, according to a Sunday newspaper.

The report to be pubished in Welt am Sonntag quotes confidential analyses by 14 banks involved in the operation.

Serbia's parliament ratifies energy deal with Russia

BELGRADE, September 9, 2008 (AFP) - Serbia's parliament ratified an accord with Russia on investment in the Balkan country's oil and gas industry, by a vast majority on Tuesday.

The deal clears the way for Russian gas giant Gazprom to build a pipeline in southern Serbia and an underground gas storage facility in northern Vojvodina province, and to buy the Serbian oil monopoly NIS.

Turkish Airlines says it will bid for Bosnian national carrier

Deutsche Bahn names banks involved in partial privatisation

BERLIN, August 25, 2008 (AFP) - Germany's national railway, Deutsche Bahn, published Monday the list of banks that will handle its partial privatisation in the coming months.

Austria gives green light to privatisation of AUA

VIENNA, August 5, 2008 (AFP) - The Austrian government nodded its approval Tuesday to the privatisation of ailing national flag carrier, Austrian Airlines (AUA).

In a compromise reached by the coalition OeVP and SPOe parties at a meeting in the chancellor's office on Tuesday, the government agreed that up to 100 percent of the airline's capital could be sold to the private sector.

Bosnian national airline seeks strategic investors

SARAJEVO, July 2, 2008 (AFP) - The privatisation agency in Bosnia's Moslem-Croat Federation said Wednesday it had opened an international tender for a 49 percent stake in the national carrier, BH Airlines.

The government of the federation currently holds a 99.87 percent stake in BH Airlines. The remaining 0.13 percent is held by the regional engineering company Energoinvest.

NANTES, June 5, 2008 (AFP) - French port workers Thursday blockaded two oil depots on the Atlantic coast in the latest of a string of strikes and protests over port privatisation plans.

Some 200 employees from the port of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire blocked road access to two depots at a Total oil refinery in nearby Donges, the CGT union said.

German parliament approves partial rail privatisation

After years of wrangling, the lower house of the German parliament on Friday gave the green light to a partial privatisation of the country's railways.

The Bundestag vote saw 355 deputies approve the measure with 153 against and three abstaining. Nearly 100 MPs did not cast a ballot.
