The toll could rise, as six bodies under white sheets could be seen in the vicinity of the crash, according to images on local television.

The collision near the town of Chatsworth, about 31 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles, caused a fire and at least one commuter train car and seven cars from the freight train to derail.

Eurotunnel says fire won't hurt finances

PARIS, September 12, 2008 (AFP) - A fire in the Channel Tunnel sent shares in operator Eurotunnel falling three percent on Friday, but the company insisted the financial damage would be 'limited.'

'Eurotunnel judges at this stage that the financial fall-out from this incident will be limited and points out that its operating losses are insured,' the company said in a statement.

German army planning to build a railway in Afghanistan: report

BERLIN, August 30, 2008 (AFP) - Germany's army is planning to build a railway line to link its logistical base in northern Afghanistan to its airbase in Uzbekistan, said Der Spiegel weekly that goes on sale Monday.

The Bundeswehr will construct the 67-kilometre (42-mile) railway line from Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan to the small Uzbek border town of Hairatan.
