Football: Smith gives Portuguese rivals a Sporting chance

GLASGOW, April 2, 2008 (AFP) - Rangers manager Walter Smith admits his side could be a victim of their own success ahead of the visit of Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their UEFA Cup quarter final on Thursday.

The Ibrox side are on course to complete a domestic treble and are also hoping to add the European trophy to their season's haul.

Football: Ferguson puts surgery on hold to lead trophy charge

GLASGOW, March 19, 2008 (AFP) - Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is planning to delay ankle surgery until the end of the season so that he can lead the Ibrox club's bid for a domestic treble and UEFA Cup glory.

Fergsuon, 30, has been ruled out of Wednesday's Scottish Cup clash with Partick Thistle and there had been fears his season could come to a premature end.
