One killed in Afghan suicide blast

KHOST, July 27, 2008 (AFP) - A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a tent of security guards in eastern Afghanistan Sunday, killing one of them and injuring six more, officials said.

The attacker, who had strapped explosives to his body, detonated after entering the tent used by guards in charge of security for a road construction company in the province of Khost, officials said.

Suicide blast in Afghan capital wounds five: officials

KABUL, July 22, 2008 (AFP) - A suicide bomber blew himself up near the Afghan capital's landmark and ancient Babur's Gardens early Tuesday, wounding five civilians, the interior ministry said.

The bomber detonated explosives attached to his body after being identified by police manning a security checkpost, the ministry said in a statement.

KABUL, July 22, 2008 (AFP) - A suicide bomber blew himself near Kabul's landmark and ancient Babur's Gardens early Tuesday, wounding three civilians, the interior ministry said.

The attacker had climbed out of his car and detonated explosives attached to his body near a security checkpost, interior ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary told AFP.

Woman would-be suicide bomber caught in Afghanistan: officials

GHAZNI, July 18, 2008 (AFP) - Police arrested a woman and a 13-year-old child they alleged were suicide bombers planning to kill a provincial governor in central Afghanistan, officials said Friday.

The pair were arrested late Thursday as they were fixing explosives to themselves behind the governor's residence in Ghazni, provincial government spokesman Ismail Jahangir told AFP.

Suicide attack in Afghanistan kills 24: police

KANDAHAR, July 13, 2008 (AFP) - At least 24 people were killed on Sunday in a suicide attack at a crowded bazaar in southern Afghanistan, police said, raising an earlier toll.

'Some people died in the hospital. We have now 20 civilians and four police officers killed,' said Juma Gul Hemat, the police chief of Uruzgan province.

Suicide car bomb in Afghanistan kills 18: police

KANDAHAR, July 13, 2008 (AFP) - A suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden car into a police vehicle at a bazaar in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, killing at least 18 people, a police commander told AFP.

Five of the dead in the attack in Uruzgan province were policemen and the remainder were civilians, provincial police chief Juma Gul Hemat said.
