ThyssenKrupp signs deal during Merkel's visit to China

BEIJING, Aug 27, 2007 (AFP) - A deal involving a unit of steel maker ThyssenKrupp was among three economic contracts signed Monday on the sidelines of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Beijing.

The three agreements were signed at the Great Hall of the People following talks between Merkel and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

The memorandum of understanding between Germany's ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG and Nanjing's economic and technology zone was for an engine components project.

ThyssenKrupp raises full-year forecasts after strong third quarter

BERLIN, Aug 10, 2007 (AFP) - German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp on Friday raised its full-year forecasts after announcing better-than-expected third quarter results.

Net profit was up 61 percent to 759 million euros (1.04 billion dollars) and pre-tax profit was 1.22 billion euros in the third quarter, the first time it had passed the billion-euro mark.

Sales were up 11 percent to 13.4 billion euros for the quarter up to June 30.

Demand for steel and stainless steel remained high, especially in China, the company said.
