Hong Kong's TOM Group posts first half loss on Internet unit

HONG KONG, Aug 21, 2007 (AFP) - TOM Group Ltd, part of Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing's business empire, Tuesday posted a net loss in the first half to June on poor figures at one of its Internet units.

The media arm of Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa said the losses were due to the performance of one of its Internet companies and a booking impairment charge for its wireless operation.

The company recorded a net loss of 72 million Hong Kong dollars (9.22 million US) in the first half, against a net profit of 91.3 million dollars a year earlier.
