Low-cost Spanish airlines agree to merge: company

MADRID, July 7, 2008 (AFP) - Spanish low-cost airline Vueling said Monday that it had reached an agreement to merge with rival Clickair, which is 20 percent owned by national airline Iberia.

Loss-making Vueling is to absorb Clickair and then issue new shares which will be taken up by Clickair shareholders, said a statement from Vueling.

Trading in Spain's Iberia, Vueling shares suspended: regulator

MADRID, July 7, 2008 (AFP) - Trade in the shares of Spanish national airline Iberia and its low-cost rival Vueling was suspended on Monday pending an announcement from Vueling, stock market regulator CNMV said.

In April loss-making Vueling announced it was studing a possible merger with Clickair, a low-cost airline in which Iberia has a 20 percent stake.

Spanish low-cost carriers Vueling, Clickair weigh merger: Vueling

MADRID, April 1, 2008 (AFP) - Spanish low-cost airlines Vueling and Clickair are to weigh a possible merger of equals, Vueling announced Tuesday.

'Vueling and Clickair have agreed to begin a negotiating process to study the possible integration of the two companies,' Vueling said in a statement to the Spanish market authority, CNMV.

MADRID, Feb 25, 2008 (AFP) - Spain's struggling low-cost airline Vueling said Monday its net loss widened in 2007 to 63.2 million euros (93.6 million dollars) from 10.8 million euros a year earlier due to rising fuel costs and lower fares brought on by stiff competition.

MADRID, Jan 29, 2008 (AFP) - Spanish low-cost airline Vueling's core shareholder Planeta said Tuesday it was in merger talks with several companies in the sector, including its peer Clickair.

Planeta made the announcement shortly after Vueling rejected reports that it was in talks with Clickair, in which Spanish flag carrier Iberia has a 20 percent stake.

MADRID, Oct 18, 2007 (AFP) - Spain's struggling low-cost airline Vueling is open to talks on a takeover or merger, its US chairwoman Barbara Cassani told a Spanish newspaper published Thursday.

Vueling is 'ready to talk with any investor interested in buying the company, who wants to forge a partnership or merge,' Cassani told the Cinco Dias business daily.

Board of Spanish airline Vueling faces the axe

MADRID, Oct 10, 2007 (AFP) - The biggest shareholder in Spanish low-cost airline Vueling has called for a shareholders' meeting to sack 'some or all' of the management of the struggling group, a statement from the shareholder showed on Wednesday.

Inversiones Hemisferio, which owns 15.87 percent of Vueling, wants an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) at which a motion to censure the board would be put to shareholders, a statement sent to market regulator CNMV showed.
