Football: Ward returns home to Melbourne Victory

SYDNEY, Dec 5, 2007 (AFP) - Beleaguered A-League champions Melbourne Victory Wednesday announced the signing of national under-23 midfielder Nick Ward for the rest of the Australian season.

Attacking midfielder Ward has been playing with lower league English clubs Queens Park Rangers and Brighton with mixed success since starring in the inaugural A-League season with Perth Glory.

American football: Giants lose top rusher Ward for rest of season

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, Dec 4, 2007 (AFP) - The New York Giants placed their top rusher, Derrick Ward, on injured reserve on Tuesday, officially ending his National Football League season.

Ward broke his left leg on Sunday in the Giants' 21-16 victory over the Chicago Bears.

Ice hockey: Ward named NHL player of the week

NEW YORK, Oct 15, 2007 (AFP) - Cambodia Ward, who backstopped the Carolina Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup in 2006, was named the National Hockey League's player-of-the-week on Monday.

The 23-year-old Canadian registered a superb 1.67-goals-against average over three games last week, including a 27-save performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

Ward, who dropped 11.3 kilograms (25 pounds) over the summer break, is unbeaten so far in 2007-08 with four wins and one tie and a .942 save percentage.
